The Libyan army bombed the “Al-Wefaq” forces and killed the “leader of al-Qaeda” near Sirte
The Libyan Air Force launched air strikes targeting a convoy of government forces, backed by Turkey, northwest of Ubari while trying to attack the Sharara oil field.
Yesterday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced that the death toll of the Syrian mercenaries, who were sent by Turkey to fight the Libyan army, had risen to 390, confirming that among them was the former leader of al-Qaeda, Samer al-Atrash, known as Abu Yarub al-Athri, in the vicinity of Sirte during his command of groups of Syrian mercenaries. The observatory said that Al-Atrash had fled years ago to the areas of the Syrian “National Army” supported by Ankara, and had lived in Idlib before traveling to Libya to fight with Al-Wefaq against the Libyan army.
Politically, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs, David Schenker, hailed the Cairo Declaration and saw in it “useful” aspects, but said: “We see the UN-led process and the Berlin process as the most constructive framework for progress toward the ceasefire.”
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya said that the parties started a new round of peace talks last Wednesday.
For his part, Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Aqeela Saleh, discussed developments in Libya during a phone call with British Ambassador to Libya, Nicholas Hobton.
Speaker of the Parliament, Abdallah Bleihaq, said that Saleh discussed with Hobten the latest developments in the situation in Libya and ways to reach a solution to end the crisis in the country, focusing on “the Cairo Declaration” to end the Libyan crisis.
A European diplomat revealed that the foreign ministers of the European Union will ask the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to pressure Turkey to stop its interference in Libya and commit to the outputs of the Berlin conference.
The Arabic Network quoted one of the ambassadors, who spoke on the condition of not revealing his name or his country, that Turkey’s interference fuel the Libyan conflict, and that France, Germany and Italy together strive to avoid a regional war in Libya and return to the path of the Berlin conference held last January.
