Are Vasilísa paintings, the Greek answer to Andy Warhol?

Vasilisa , although a Greek name, meaning the Queen, is also a fairytale in Russian mythology that depicts the conflict among the sunlight, the storm and the dark clouds.
Vasilísa paintings, the paintings of the Greek artist Fragiadaki Vasiliki , seem to combine all the above!
The author has a rising international career in the area of pop art.

Vasilisa: The Heart

However, there is by no means an analogy between Warhol paintings and Vasilísa.

Warhol has been focused on painting recognisable figures , such as Chairman Mao, or Marilyn Monroe, and recognisable brands, like Campbell’s soups and Coca Cola bottles.

The art of Vasilísa is focused on life and human life organs.

And a bit of something more.

The statement of the artist, speaks of itself, clearly.

Vasilisa: The StomachBirds

Artist’s Statement: I want to paint everything

Painting is a necessity for me, like eating or sleeping.

I am grateful that I was able to participate in some exhibitions including that of the Annual Conference of Anatomy in London. The inspiration for my works is mainly my profession – that of (Nuclear) Medicine.

Vasilisa: The Hearts2016

So I paint mainly organs of the human body either in the style of pop art or in the movement of surrealism , combining nature (birds, fruits, plants) with organs , in surreal compositions. Therefore, whenever someone observes my painting, may wonders if they see a creature of nature, an organ of the human body or both.

After all, dualism, as with light, is intertwined with nature.

Vasilisa: The StrawberryHearts

When I paint in the colours of pop art it is because I want to put colour in Medicine, in the doctor’s offices or wherever else there is a painting of mine hanging.

I aim my work not just to simply hung on a wall, but also to signify life and to simultaneously make familiar the observer to the anatomy of the human body.
